PCOS is a potentially serious hormonal and metabolic condition. It affects roughly 10-15% of all reproductive age women, yet at least 50% of women with PCOS remain undiagnosed. While it’s the most common cause of female infertility in women under 40, it also raises a woman’s risk for other conditions such as weight gain, low thyroid function, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and uterine cancer.

Lecture objectives including defining PCOS, diagnosing PCOS based on Rotterdam Criteria, and understand how it varies from the Androgen Excess Society  and  the US National Institute for Health criteria. You will also learn the basic pathophysiology of PCOS and the comorbidities associations with PCOC, as well as the need for  early intervention. As you go through the lecture you will understand how to rule out other abnormalities/disease states based on laboratory testing.  Finally, the lecture concludes with providing an understanding of how best manage PCOS patients through the peri-menopausal/menopausal transition.
